LENTEN CURTAIN 2019

Site specific art instalation to roman-catholic church of st. John Bosco in Bratislava, Slovakia. This lenten fabric artpiece was created by young artist Klára Štefanovičová with the cooperation and dialogues with art directior architect Michal Žák and local community of Salesians of Don Bosco. This project was created by 80th anniversary of consecration of church built in funcionalistic style by architect Gabriel Schreiber.

Project is influenced and inspirated by temporary art instalations to churches during lent period - 40 preparational days before Easter celebrated in christian community. This practice of changing the space of church is deepy rooted in catholic using of church - i.e. table converted altar used in gothic in middle ages abled to change front paintings.

Whole cooperation among artist, art director and religious community have started during exhibition of student works in VŠVU / AFAD in Bratislava (Academy of fine arts and design) in june 2018. One of the most important thing in creative process was acceptation of this event and project by local salesian community. When the doors for this project have been opened technical team have started to find ways how to fit Curtain, how to present it to local parishioners, how to communicate with media, etc. After intro vernisage in december 2018 we have prepared series of multigenre events during lent 2019 called Lenten Wednesdays. Sense of these evening events was to show variety of layers of church atmospheres.

( Audio from Lenten Wednesdays events ). One of the most important lenten evenings was connected with space performance "atmospheres of space" based on singing and moving of singing choir in church pews.
